On December 4, Baidu’s Apollo self-driving travel service platform “Carrot Run” will officially land in Yongchuan, Chongqing, and begin to provide self-driving travel services to the public. As the sixth city to open manned test services after Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Changsha, and Cangzhou, Chongqing citizens will have a brand new technology travel experience. At the same time, the launch of Carrot Run will further empower regional intelligent construction and help Chongqing build a new name card of “Smart City”.
According to the plan, after “Carrot Run” is opened for normal operation in Yongchuan, Chongqing, all users can realize autonomous driving travel services through Baidu Maps and the Carrot Run APP. At present, “Carrot Run” can provide nearly 60 pick-up and drop-off stations in Chongqing, and the number is still growing. The driving route covers a variety of scenes such as scenic spots, schools, commercial districts, residential areas, industrial parks, etc., and can directly connect to Yongchuan Wanda Plaza. The operating hours last from 9:30 to 23:00 at night to further meet the diverse travel needs of citizens.
In recent years, Chongqing has been actively seizing the development opportunities of intelligent transportation, making efforts to build an international comprehensive transportation hub and building a smart mountain city. Yongchuan District, as the first batch of strategic emerging service industry cluster demonstration zones in Chongqing, also actively responds to Chongqing’s development strategy and continues to make efforts in smart travel. As early as April of this year, the country’s first self-driving bus demonstration operation project landed in Yongchuan, Chongqing. Local citizens can make appointments through APP ports such as Baidu Maps to experience self-driving bus travel at close range. In November, Baidu’s self-driving bus opened toll services in Yongchuan, marking a solid step towards building a smart transportation city in Yongchuan. With the opening of “Carrot Run” demonstration service in Yongchuan, it will further promote the construction of multiple scenarios for autonomous driving and help Chongqing become a new benchmark for the autonomous driving industry in western China.
